Our landlord, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, gave permission for
St. Martin’s on the Isle to be built in 1987 and the hotel was
subsequently opened in May 1989.
Hotel gardens overlooking the Hotel Quay, Tresco & Round Island Lighthouse
As you can imagine, building on such an environmentally sensorial island surrounded by a marine park required a great deal of sensitivity both in the choice of location and the choice of materials. The resulting hotel, nestling into the hillside and built to resemble a cluster of granite cottages, has received much acclaim and is now accepted as a part of the landscape.
The hotel, the only one on the island of St. Martin’s, faces west overlooking mature gardens, it’s own quay, white sandy beaches and clear blue sea, with uninhabited islands as a backdrop framed by magnificent sunsets in the evening.
Hotel Quay
Independently assessed by all the major guides as the highest rated hotel and restaurant in Scilly by far, it is the warmth, friendliness, professionalism and spontaneity of our staff that is commented on most by our regular guests who return year after year.
